{"id":1711,"date":"2016-04-11T15:58:30","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T15:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/?post_type=blog_post&#038;p=1711"},"modified":"2016-11-12T00:00:42","modified_gmt":"2016-11-12T00:00:42","slug":"poverty-perspective-through-the-eyes-of-an-american-boy-%e2%80%a2-2-comments","status":"publish","type":"blog_post","link":"http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/blog-post\/poverty-perspective-through-the-eyes-of-an-american-boy-%e2%80%a2-2-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"Poverty Perspective (through the eyes of an American boy)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having been to Haiti, I have changed completely. \u00a0I don&#8217;t use phrases such as &#8220;I&#8217;m starving&#8221; or &#8220;I&#8217;m dying of thirst&#8221;. \u00a0Having been to Haiti, I know that there are people who really are starving and in need of water. \u00a0Several family members live together in tiny homes, often made of mud, sheets of tin, or just scraps of many different materials. \u00a0I saw children wearing only t-shirts. \u00a0It was hard to see so much poverty. \u00a0Before going to Haiti, I thought poverty was not having enough money and things you need or want. \u00a0I saw that it can go much deeper.\u00a0 This is my new understanding of the poverty in Haiti.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1712\" src=\"http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/emptypockets.jpg\" alt=\"emptypockets\" width=\"428\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/emptypockets.jpg 428w, http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/emptypockets-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>I used to think poverty was this.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1713\" src=\"http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/brokenheart.jpg\" alt=\"brokenheart\" width=\"510\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/brokenheart.jpg 510w, http:\/\/ezravisionministries.org\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/brokenheart-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>After visiting Haiti, I know that poverty looks more like this.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the same time,\u00a0I was surprised by the level of joy and excitment the Haitians had, especially the kids when we helped another missionary group with VBS. \u00a0You would have thought their favorite pop artist had come to their village!
